What to Expect at Your First Massage Therapy Visit (and How to Find the Studio)

If you’re booking your first massage therapy appointment with me—welcome!

Whether you’re new to massage or simply new to this space, my goal is to make you feel comfortable, informed, and supported from the moment you arrive.

This post is here to walk you through what an initial massage therapy visit looks like, what to expect during your treatment, and how to find the new studio so you can arrive feeling relaxed rather than rushed.

Before You Arrive

Once your appointment is booked, you’ll receive a confirmation email with important details about your session. For your initial visit, you’ll be asked to complete an intake form. This helps me understand:

  • Your health history

  • Any injuries or areas of concern

  • Your goals for treatment (relaxation, pain relief, stress management, etc.)

Taking a few minutes to complete this in advance allows us to spend more time focused on your treatment once you arrive - otherwise you’ll be required to complete it in the studio which can eat into your treatment time (and I also don’t want that for you).

I recommend arriving 5–10 minutes early to give yourself a little breathing room to find the studio and ease into your session

When You Arrive at the Studio

  • Check in using the Virtual Receptionist Tablet in the Citizen Salon waiting area (look for my name and logo and click on it, type in your name and number and that’s it! I’ll be notified of your arrival and you can have a seat)

  • I’ll come out to greet you and take you into the treatment room

  • We’ll do a quick review of your intake form together

  • I’ll ask a few clarifying questions about pressure preferences, focus areas, and how your body is feeling that day

Please feel free to ask questions or communicate any concerns at any point during your treatment.

During Your Massage Therapy Session

Once we’ve discussed your treatment plan, I’ll step out of the room so you can get comfortable on the table. You’ll be properly draped at all times, with only the area being treated exposed.

Your session is tailored specifically to your body and your needs. Depending on what we’ve discussed, your treatment may include:

  • Relaxation-focused massage

  • Therapeutic or deeper work on specific areas

  • Gentle movement or stretching

You’re always encouraged to speak up about pressure (too much or too little), room temperature, or your comfort at any point during the session.

Some days you may feel like chatting during your session, and other days you may just want to rest quietly. There’s no expectation either way—silent treatments are always welcome.

After Your Session

At the end of your massage, I’ll step out again so you can take your time getting up. Once you’re redressed, open the door to let me know you’re ready and we’ll check in briefly about how you’re feeling.

You may receive:

  • Home care suggestions (stretching, heat/ice, strengthening, etc.)

  • Recommendations for future treatments, if appropriate

There’s no pressure to book anything on the spot!—my priority is that you leave feeling supported and at ease.

How to Find the New Studio

The massage studio is located at 3211A 152st Surrey, BC

Parking:

  • Free parking in the lot in front of the building (just look out for any reserved parking stalls - these are not for client use)

  • Please allow a few extra minutes if this is your first visit

Finding the Entrance:

  • Look for the 3211A entrance (when looking at the building this will be to the right of the Sungiven Foods), if you see a sandwich board outside the door with my name on it - you’re in the right place!

  • Step inside and take the elevator to floor 4, turn left and walk into the Citizen Salon Studio waiting room and you’re there! (From here you can check in using the virtual receptionist)

If you ever feel unsure or turned around, you’re more than welcome to reach out before your appointment—I’m happy to help guide you. You can find my contact info here

A Final Note

Thanks for booking with me! If you have any questions before booking or before your appointment, don’t hesitate to get in touch. I look forward to welcoming you into the studio.
